PRSSA Adds to Roster with Addition of New Jersey City University Chapter
Feb. 5, 2020
NEW YORK, February 5, 2020 – PRSSA, the foremost organization for students interested in the public relations and communications fields, announced today the establishment of a new Chapter at New Jersey City University. This marks the 10th school in New Jersey to be affiliated with PRSSA, continuing the organization’s mission to build a robust, widespread network of students at institutions of higher learning.
“We are so excited to add New Jersey City University to our roster of colleges and universities across the globe,” said Jeneen Garcia, Executive Director, PRSSA. “Many of the professors in the marketing department at NJCU are members of PRSA, including a few that are APR certified. PRSSA is looking forward to working with these professors to further help students learn about and navigate the communications industry.”
Established in 1927 as a training school for teachers, today NJCU is among the most comprehensive universities in New Jersey. NJCU is committed to the improvement of the educational, intellectual, cultural, socioeconomic, and physical environment of the surrounding urban region and beyond. Located in Jersey City, New Jersey, one of the most diverse cities in the nation, NJCU's College of Arts and Sciences, Education, Professional Studies, and School of Business offer 47 undergraduate degree programs and 30 master’s programs, including emerging and interdisciplinary fields. The marketing department, housed in the School of Business, offers a variety of programs in marketing, public relations, and social media marketing.
Dr. Kathleen Rennie, APR, Fellow PRSA, will serve as faculty adviser to the PRSSA Chapter. In addition to serving as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Marketing Department, Dr. Rennie is also a full-time strategic communications professional. With more than 25 years of experience through her consulting firm, Dr. Rennie successfully develops and implements strategic communications campaigns for a broad range of clients. At NJCU, Dr. Rennie teaches integrated marketing communications, crisis communications, executive leadership communications and media relations. She also serves as the Program Director for NJCU’s Doctoral Program in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy.
“The fact that the PRSSA NJCU Chapter is located in a School of Business underscores the value of strategic communications to business success,” Dr. Rennie said. “Our students are ready to make their mark on the profession and make great contributions to this career-enhancing national organization. As a New Jersey-based public relations professional and educator who was a student member of the Rutgers University PRSSA Chapter – and advised the Seton Hall University PRSSA Chapter for two decades – I know well the positive impact that this new PRSSA Chapter will have on the education, careers and lives of NJCU students and alumni.”
The NJCU Chapter will be supported by the PRSA New Jersey Chapter, which will help foster student and professional connections by providing speakers, networking opportunities, career mentoring and other benefits.
